DigiTec EXPO 2009 in K.Demirchyan Complex in Yerevan

Yerevan, Armenia – The Union of IT Enterprises and the Enterprise Incubator Foundation organized the fifth annual DigiTec Expo 2009 on October 2-4 in Yerevan with support from Ucom, ADC, Virage Logic and USAID’s Competitive Armenian Private Sector (CAPS) Project. Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and the Head of Eastern Europe and Central Asia branch at Ericsson, Jan Campbell, marked the opening of the exhibition, noting the role information technologies can play in fostering the development of all the sectors of Armenia’s economy.

Conducted since 2005 under the sponsorship of the Armenian Prime Minister, the DigiTec Expo has become Armenia’s premier international high-tech exhibition, providing high-tech companies, industry organizations, government representatives and business consumers a forum to introduce new products and achievements, forge new business relationships and broaden international connections. Over 50 companies were represented at the Expo, which attracted over 12,000 visitors this year, marking a 15% increase in the number of exhibitors and 50% increase in the number of visitors compared to previous years. The Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Diaspora, Ministry of Labor and Social Security, and State Income Committee of Armenia were also among participants.

This year’s event, titled “Your Digital Future”, featured a Start-up Forum on new innovative solutions, DigiTec E-government Forum on electronic services provided by Government agencies, ArmRobotics Pan-Armenian Competition, and presentations of new solutions and technologies by leading local and international IT companies. DigiLife seminars were organized by CAPS to help educate tourism and pharmaceutical sector companies on how technology can make them more competitive and increase revenue through improved access to market information, increased customer outreach and improved management processes. CAPS also supported nine innovative start-up companies with booth space and development of high quality promotional and marketing materials.

“This is the fourth year that CAPS is supporting the DigiTec Expo,” said Artak Ghazaryan, CAPS Chief of Party, “Survey results indicate that each year participating big companies obtain 25-100 agreements, at least 10 of which are sealed with a contract. Smaller companies obtain up to 10 agreements as well as establish new and important contacts with potential partners.”
